Synopsis of the MDP

The MDP uses a series of assignments—development milestones—to help you grow. These are designed to strengthen you and put many useful tools in your tool bag.

Note the possible time frames indicated below. These will vary greatly depending on the speed with which you want to proceed and your previous experiences in reading, study and Christian ministry.

Level 1: Discernment

In this level you will learn more about who you are and what God is doing in the world in order to better understand and confirm your calling. Everyone has a role in God’s purpose of taking the gospel to the world. Some are called into international cross-cultural service. Others minister locally and support those who go. Your mentor and the MDT will work with you to affirm your call.

Key outcomes:

  1. Clear affirmation of your calling
  2. Increased preparedness for missionary service

Possible time frame:  6 to 24 months

Level 2: Exploration

Here, you will go through the missionary application process with BICWM to become approved for service as an official missionary candidate. You’ll explore and prepare for specific ministry and location options.

Key outcomes:

  1. Defined focus and nature of future ministry
  2. Understanding of your compatibility with BICWM vision and structure.
  3. Identified location for service

Possible time frame:  6 to 18 months

Level 3: Team Building

In this level you will build an expanding circle of people who identify with and share in your ministry. After being approved for a particular assignment, you will develop a group of supporters who will partner with you through prayer, finances, and other means of encouragement.

Key outcomes:

  1. 200 committed prayer supporters
  2. Full financial support base
  3. Deployment to a cross-cultural setting

Possible time frame:  6 to 18 months
