Covenant Relationship
CRITERIA for BIC Personnel Serving with Other Organizations and Seeking a Relationship with BICWM
- Hold membership in good standing with a BIC congregation prior to approval for service.
- Serve in a field where the Brethren in Christ has no present ministry or in a ministry where the Brethren in Christ has no current available opening.
- Assignment must be for a minimum of two years with a mission agency duly recognized by a body such as Evangelical Fellowship of Mission Agencies (EFMA) working with least-reached peoples.
- The assignment must fit the strategic global priorities of BICWM.
- Missionaries in covenant relationship meet the same basic qualifications as a missionary.
- Satisfactorily complete required pre-service BICWM Development Milestones for Covenant Relationship prior to appointment.
COVENANT RELATIONSHIP – incorporated in Ministry Agreement
BICWM's Responsibility
- BICWM will prepare prayer cards and a personal profile.
- Personnel will be listed in the BICWM Missions Directory under "Covenant Relationship” (with no country or organization designation) using a U.S. address and listed with first names and initial of last name;
- BICWM will give visibility to the ministry of persons in Covenant Relationship with Brethren in Christ World Missions.
- BICWM will receive and receipt funds from BIC constituency. Any amount over the amount earmarked for support will be sent directly to the sending agency.
- BICWM support level, if desired, will be determined by the Administrative Cabinet and guaranteed up to $170US monthly per single and $300US monthly per couple (support will begin with the date of the beginning of actual overseas assignment). BICWM will forward support donations received for Covenant Relationship Missionaries to the sending agency, provided those donations are above the guaranteed monthly amount and do not exceed $1,000 monthly.
- BICWM will guarantee travel costs which may exceed honoraria for any pre-approved speaking appointment with BIC churches/groups following return to the U.S.
- The possibility of subsequent terms under a Covenant Relationship will be reviewed at the end of each term based on the Ministry Agreement.
- The term of this agreement will co-exist with the applicant’s mission assignment and must be renewed with BICWM if/when a new contract is established with the missionary’s sending organization.
Missionary's Responsibility
- Be available to represent BICWM’s vision, mission and strategic priorities, and the BICWM team. This may be with both congregations and/or small group settings. Congregational contacts in BIC churches would be to raise support for BIC ministries.
