Meet the Pastoral Couple

Pastor Eldon Byer was born in Ontario, Canada, raised on a farm - mixed farming with a small dairy operation of about 50 cows.  After high school he attended Emmanuel Bible College for 4 years; then went north to live on a Native Reservation to learn how to live in the north.  While there his wife taught primary grades in school and he was house-husband, hunter, and mechanic.
Having this experience they then went to a gold-mining community to work with the transient mining families.  He was ordained into the ministry of the Brethren In Christ (BiC) Church in 1966.  Since he was self-supporting as a pastor, he also worked underground, eventually working 14 years underground in gold and uranium mines.  Following an injury he went to Laurentian University for a B.A. degree and while teaching pursued a Special Education certificate.
While continuing to pastor in small churches pastor Byer has taught school, worked with handicapped adults, did carpentry, and took whatever jobs would pay the bills.  While pastoring in Kentucky he completed his M Div degree at Asbury Seminary in 1995.
Pastor Byer, with his first wife had 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.  Since the death of Lynn, he has married Marilyn (Heisey), a Hershey girl, and another great grandchild has been born.
Marilyn has had a variety of work positions, teaching school, doing craft and horticultural therapy, and for 15+ years has worked in the Grantham, PA, Missions office of the BiC Church.  When she and Eldon met, she was also serving as a deacon in the Dillsburg, BiC church.  Her gifts, experience, and personality make her a personable pastor’s wife.
While being partial to the BiC, pastor Byer has preached and taught in a variety of denominational settings.  “What’s written above the door is not as important as what is written on our hearts.  We want to learn the teachings of Jesus and follow his example in our own lives.  Being a follower of Jesus Christ should make a difference in our personal lives, our homes, our church, our community and our world.”
Having experienced a number of miraculous healings and times of protection from danger, along with his wide variety of experience, pastor Byer usually has a story that relates to your experience.  If you are searching for God, or meaning in life, come and give West Shore BiC a try.  We have found some answers and would be glad for you to share your journey with us.
