Bert, P. Paul, a member of the Air Hill congregation in Chambersburg, PA, passed away on February 15, 2006. He was born on April 26, 1923 in Franklin County, PA to the late Samuel Z. and Clara (Winger) Bert. The owner and operator of Bert’s Berry Farm, Paul also taught Sunday School for many years and was involved with outreach ministries. He is survived by his sons Carl Bert and Stephen Bert; as well as daughters Cheryl Coover and Sue Beam. The funeral, held at Air Hill BIC, was officiated by Revs. LeRoy Eberly and Roger Witter, and interment was at the Air Hill Cemetery.
Boyer, Michael Thomas passed away on June 6, 2006. He was 66 years old. Loving father of six, grandfather of twelve, and great-grandfather of one, Michael Boyer will be buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy, MD. He was survived by Julie, Steve, Geoff, Sheryl, Chris, and Debbie. A funeral ceremony will take place in Mount Airy, MD.
Cloke, Cora went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2006. The daughter of Peter and Sarah (Heise) Steckley, Cora was born in Whitchurch Township, Ontario on May 25, 1902. She accepted Christ, was baptized by her preacher father, and became a member of the Heise Hill congregation at the age of 13. In 1928 Cora married Walter Cloke, foster son of Herb and Pearl Sider, members of Wainfleet BIC Church. Cora enjoyed a long life of service to the Lord in her church, as a teacher of Sunday school for preschoolers, a seamstress and quilter in the sewing circle, and a partner in Missions Prayer Fellowship. She is survived by her daughters Rhoda Marr and Gladys Shoalts. The funeral was held at Wainfleet BIC Church, officiated by Revs. John R. Sider and Charles E. Mashinter, and interment was at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Wainfleet, Ontario.
Cober, Mary, a member of the Heise Hill BIC Church, Gormley, Ontario, Canada passed away on June 29, 2006. She was 93 years old. Mary's artistic talents and creativity were evident in her poetry writing, skillful sewing, rug hooking, and needlework, crocheting and gardening. She was noted for her love of family and local history and had an incredible memory for dates and events. She loved her church and attended faithfully. The funeral ceremony took place took place at Heise Hill Cemetery, Gormley, Ontario, Canada.
Corbin, Mary E. Book passed away at the age of 83 on January 23, 2006. She was born in Mifflintown, PA on June 15, 1922 to the late William and Melissa (Hackenberger) Book. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Patriot-News for 26 years, and also served as a Sunday school teacher at Cedar Grove BIC. She is survived by her sisters Viola Lauver and Jane Benner, as well as nine stepchildren and 20 nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at Cedar Grove, officiated by Rev. M. Eugene Heidler, and interment was at Union Cemetery.
Diziki, Amber Louise passed away on October 30, 2006 at the age of 13, at the University of Minnesota Hospital, after a long battle with a chronic illness. She was the daughter of Chris A. and Amy L. Martineau Diziki of Liverpool. Amber was a member of Mechanicsburg BIC (Pa.) Church and enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed listening to music, playing with her siblings, Ian, Hannah and Raina, swimming and riding on the back of the bus on her way to school. Surviving in addition to her parents and siblings are her maternal grandmother, Mary Martineau of Lambertville, NJ; paternal grandparents, Allan and Grace Diziki of Easton, PA; maternal great-grandparents, Ruth L. and the late Rev. Roland Strang of Pennington, NJ; and several great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Engle, Mary Ann, a member of Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church passed away on January 11, 2006. She was 70 years old. Retired from the Center Square Press (Mechanicsburg, PA), where she worked as a bookkeeper and proofreader, Mary Ann Engle served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Brethren in Christ Historical Society, manager of the Brethren in Christ Missionary Home, and as a chairman of the Grantham’s Women’s Club. . She is survived by her husband, Nevin E. Engle, her son and daughters Philip N. Engle, Marian K. Lehman and Barbara S. Cassell, and seven of her brothers: Ronald Stoner, Sam Stoner, John Stoner, Bob Stoner, Marlin Stoner, Ben Stoner, and Jerry Stoner. The funeral ceremony took place at Grantham (PA) Brethren in Christ Church.
Esh, Gladys Louise, a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church (Waynesboro, PA), passed away on May 10, 2006. She was 75 years old. Esh graduated from Washington Township High School in 1949 and then went on to receive her Nursing Degree in Hagerstown, MD. She worked at the Waynesboro Hospital, and prior to retiring in 1997, she worked at Cross Keys Brethren Home in New Oxford, PA. Esh was also a member of Berean Sunday School Class, Senior Fellowship, Common Bond Ladies Bible Study and the national AARP. She was survived her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Ellen Ensminger and Darlyss Kipe both of Waynesboro, five sisters, three brothers, six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral ceremony took place at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church.
Gingell, Robert T. passed away on March 14, 2006. Born on March 14, 2006 to Thomas and Jane (Bollinger) Gingell, Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, working aboard the U.S.S. Albany. After the Navy, he was a staff supervisor at Victor Cullen Center, Sabillasville, Md., and later did security work at Western Maryland Hospital in Hagerstown, Md. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, home remodeling, and making knives. A member of Five Forks BIC, he was predeceased by his father, Thomas, and his wife, Susan. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Amy Bond of Waynesboro, Pa. and Jennifer Flores of Cascade, Md., and a son, Jason Gingell of Cascade, Md. The funeral was held at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Brian Black, and interment was at Bethel Church Cemetery.
Gingell, Susan M. passed away on March 10, 2006. A member of the Five Forks congregation, she was born on May 27, 1950 to Beulah (Fox) Kell and the late John Kell of Hagerstown, MD. Susan worked for the State of Maryland as a secretary at Victor Cullen Center in Sabillasville, MD for a number of years. Prior to retiring in 1997, she was the personnel secretary at Western Maryland Hospital in Hagerstown. Susan is survived by two daughters, Amy Bond of Waynesboro, Jennifer Flores of Cascade; a son, Jason Gingell of Cascade; two sisters, Doris Addlesberger and Faye Stouffer of Greencastle; two brothers, John Kell and Tim Kell, both of Waynesboro. The funeral was held at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, officiated by pastor Brian Black of Five Forks BIC Church, and interment was at Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, MD.
Gorman, John Kenneth, a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ (Waynesboro, PA), passed away on May 31, 2006. He was 86 years old. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife, Ruth, were married on Sept. 17, 1938. He worked at Frick Company, Waynesboro, PA and Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA. He retired in 1995. Mr. Gorman enjoyed watching football, hunting and gardening. He is survived by one daughter, Mary Naugle of South Mountain, PA, three sons, John Jr. of Pensacola Florida, Eugene of Quincy, PA, Keith of Greencastle, PA. Two brothers, Ralph Gorman of Hagerstown, MD, Glen Gorman of St. Thomas, PA, also eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral ceremony was held at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home and interment at Green Hill Cemetery (both in Waynesboro).
Gutshall, Elva, a long-time member of Antrim ( Chambersburg, PA) BIC Church passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006. She was 88 years old. Elva is survived by a daughter, Velva Morris, a grandson, Dane Morris, a granddaughter, Dena Graham, great grandson Derek Musser and great granddaughter Jessica Morris. A memorial celebration was held at Antrim BIC Church on Sunday March 26, with Revs. Ky Searcy and Doris Barr officiating.
Harnish, Mary H., 90, of New Providence, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2006. She was the wife of the late Ira T. Harnish, who died May 25, 1989. She was a member of Byerland Mennonite Church, and was involved in the church’s Women’s Sewing Circle. She worked at several stands at Central Market in Lancaster for many years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, and vacationing in the mountains. Her life was centered on her devotion to God and her love for her family. Surviving are five children: Mary Ann, Shelby, Libby, John, and James. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Anne Becker; and a foster sister-in-law, Marie Shank. Private interment is at the convenience of the family in Byerland Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 7:00 p.m., at Byerland Mennonite Church. Friends may greet the family following the service. Hennigh, Pauline V. passed away on March 12, 2006. She was 82 years old. Henningh worked at Messiah Village for a period of 30 years, time that was mostly spent connecting with people. She was survived by four sisters: Lois Henningh, Orpha Thuma, Esther Hennigh, and Rachel Hennigh. The memorial service took place at Cumberland Valley Church ( Dillsburg, Pa.) Henningh was buried at Zion Hill Cemetery ( Central Hall, Pa.)
Hill, Thelma was born on December 17, 1916 and passed away on October 21, 2005. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Walter and is survived by her brother Bruce (Kathleen) Evans; daughters Nancy (Bob) and Lorene (Dale); sons Louis ( Cali) and Terry (Kelly); seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at Heise Hill BIC Church in Gormley, Ontario and was officiated by Reverend Janet Evans McQuaid. Interment was at Heise Hill Cemetery, also in Gormley, ON.
Jarvis, Peter passed away on March 17, 2006 at the age of 87. He and his wife, Emma, have long been connected with the Oak Ridges congregation in Ontario. “Pete” was well known in Oak Ridges, and will be missed by everyone. Pastor Ken Smith officiated at the funeral, held at Marshalls Funeral Home.
Linton, Carrie Diane died at the Essa Flory Hospice Center in Lancaster, PA on March 19, 2006. Born on March 31, 1966 in Austin, TX, Carrie was adopted by John K. and Janet Stoner and graduated from Messiah College with a major in early childhood education. Carrie’s love for children led her to serve as an assistant education supervisor in Lancaster County’s Head Start program. Her life was centered on her family. An active member of the Lancaster Brethren in Christ congregation, she sang in the church choir, served on the board of the preschool program, and gave leadership to children’s programs at Christmas and other special times. She enjoyed teaching, music, camping, Scrabble, and sports. She expressed her love for life, for God, and for others by her hard work, joyful play and compassionate relationships. Carrie is survived by her husband Steven R. Linton; sons Jeremy, age 10, and Spencer, age 7; her parents, Janet and John K. Stoner of Akron, PA; her birth mother, Katherine Tulloch of Austin, TX; and siblings, Bobby Cordell, Jr., Keith Cordell, Jane Johnson, Kay Stoner, Cathy Stoner, Billie Jo Lechner, and Robert Peachy Stoner. She was predeceased in death by a sister, Donna Cordell. The funeral was conducted by Rev. James D. Ernst at Lancaster BIC Church; interment was at Riverview Burial Park.
Luttrell, Donald R. passed away at the age of 80 on February 12, 2006. He was born on July 18, 1925 in Derry Township, PA, served in the Navy during World War II, and was later employed by the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, PA. A member of Palmyra BIC Church, Donald was also part of the Shenks and Bright Hope Fellowship congregations. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing the harmonica. He is survived by his wife Kathryn and daughter Donna K. Gordon, both of Palmyra, PA. The funeral was held at Hershey Evangelical Free Church, and interment at Shenk's Cemetery.
Mummau (Spickler) , Iva Kathryn passed away on August 8, 2006. She was 84 years old. She was the wife of the late Owen Eugene Mummau. She was survived by her sons: Clair S. married to Jean Kreider Mummau, O. Howard married to Rae Sullivan Mummau, Lawrence N. married to Sheryl Rohrer Mummau, Vincent N. Mummau, her daughters Geraldine M. married to Eli Zimmerman, I. Bernice married to Ronald Tamkin, Lesetta E. married to Marlin D. Weaver, Celesta F. married to Scott Funk, three brothers Martin, Warren, and Galen, 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Oldham, David has passed away. Born in 1970, in Martinsburg, PA to Charles and Linda Oldham, David is survived by his brothers, Stanley, Dean, Rodney, and Gary Oldham. Ollies, Clive passed away on August 1, 2006. He was a great man and a humble servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. Clive was a well loved pastor whose sermons were well delivered with emotion. A very gentle, soft spoken man who new the Word of God. He was a shepherd to many, counselor, friend to all. Loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest. When things were difficult and there wasn't much light at the end of the tunnel Clive would say, "Plod on, Plod on." So we did and God's love and grace saw us through. Thank you Clive for being a steadfast servant.
Palmer, Mark K. passed away at the age of 31 on March 27, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. A 1992 graduate of Mansfield High School, PA and a 1996 alumnus of Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, PA, Mark was working on his graduate degree at Ashland Theological Seminary when he died. He served as the spiritual director of the Landing Place Community, Columbus, OH, and also shared his vision of Kingdom and community living through speaking engagements across the country and around the world. Pyke, Myrle B., died peacefully Monday, November 28, 2005 at Harrisburg Hospital after a short illness and went to be with her Lord. She was born March 1, 1914 to Reverend Harvey K. Light and Minnie Light in Lebanon County. Myrle was married 67 wonderful years to her husband Harold L. Pyke, who resides at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, PA. Myrle was a graduate of Messiah Bible College and Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed her profession as a registered nurse prior to raising her family. She was a member of Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church and, before that, of Grantham Brethren in Christ Church. Myrle was an enthusiastic volunteer in numerous capacities at Messiah Village and at 91 was continuing to volunteer by folding napkins until her recent illness. She was keenly interested in supporting world missions through prayer and letter writing.
She is survived by sisters Faithe Light of Messiah Village; Grace Ensminger of Lebanon, PA; Elizabeth Stoessel of Messiah Village; Miriam Dengler of Shaefferstown, PA; and sister-in- law Alverta Light, also of Lebanon, PA. Her sister Naomi Light and brother Harvey K. Light, Jr. predeceased her. Myrle was much loved by her children, daughter Carolyn and husband Robert Mann of Mechanicsburg; and sons Lyle Pyke and wife Jeanne of Charlotte, NC; Neal Pyke and wife Carol of Anacortes, WA; Lynn Pyke and wife Terri Santa Coloma of New Orleans, LA; Larry Pyke and wife Stella of Anacortes, WA. Myrle and Harold had eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Snyder, Anna M., a member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, passed away on May 10, 2006. She was 76 years old. Snyder was a Sunday school teacher and wife of Donald Snyder, who preceded her in death December 6, 2005. She is survived by her children: Lois Erney, Lonnie Snyder, Leslie Snyder, Stephen Snyder, Eunice Amey, Joan Asper, Brenda Hill, Bonnie Sheaffer, fifteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. A funeral ceremony took place at Cedar Grove.
Snyder, Donald W. passed away on December 6, 2005. Born on June 17, 1923 to the late Charles and Gertrude (Heffner) Snyder of Juniata County, PA, Donald is survived by his children, Lois Erney, Lonnie, Leslie, and Stephen Snyder, Eunice Amey, Joan Asper, Brenda Hill, and Bonnie Sheaffer; his brother Robert Snyder; and his 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Earl, Clyde, Charles, and Paul Snyder, and by his sisters Evelyn Hartzell and Doris Snyder. Donald worked as a diesel mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Enola, PA before retiring in 1984. He also served as a deacon at Cedar Grove (Mifflintown, PA) Brethren in Christ Church for many years, where he was a member. Funeral services were held at Richfield Evangelical Methodist Church in Richfield, PA and were officiated by Rev. Aaron McCarty and Rev. M. Eugene Heidler. Interment was at Maze Cemetery in Thompsontown, PA.
Socks, Goldie a member of Five Forks BIC Church, Chambersburg, PA passed away on June 25, 2006. She was 82 years old. She worked as a presser at the Knitting Mill for 27 years. Following retirement in 1982, she worked for Snug Harbor Campground in Williamsport, MD. She was a founding member of the Pen Mar United Brethren Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and song leader. Most recently she attended services at Five Forks BIC church, Waynesboro. Mrs. Socks enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, crocheting, and working on puzzles. She also sang gospel music at various churches for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Dorine Angle-Wolgemuth, three sons: Jacob Socks, III, Samuel Socks, and Terry Socks, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Louuse Kiser, one brother, Amos Keefer, and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral ceremony took place at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home.
Steckley, J. Bruce passed away on February 7, 2006. Born in Gormley, Ontario to Levi and Mabel Steckley in 1927, Bruce was known for his love of gospel music. He toured and produced several albums with a quartet entitled The Masters Touch, a group that was always in demand and performed at churches throughout Ontario. Bruce had a quiet dignity and a sense of humor that shone through in everything he did at work, at home, and at his church, where he always served on various committees and boards. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Sider, his son John, two grandchildren, seven step-children, and fourteen step-grandchildren, as well as his step-mother, Melba Steckley, sisters Alma, Margaret, Retha, Carol, and Mary. The funeral was held at Heise Hill BIC Church. Pastors Paul Penelton and Harvey Sider officiated, and interment was at Heise Hill Cemetery.
Steckley, Melba May, a member of Heise Hill BIC (Gormley, Ontario) passed away on June 18, 2006. She was 102 years old. Mrs. Steckley demonstrated a standard of excellence that obediently reflected and honored her lifetime commitment first to Jesus Christ in her heart, words and actions toward family, friends and neighbors alike. She enjoyed making quilts some of which were sold at auctions and had the money donated to MCC. Melba always enjoyed singing old hymns, Bible reading and prayers, and in most recent days calling aloud to our Heavenly Father. She was survived by step daughters Alma McTaggart, Margaret Eyer, Reatha McFadden, Carole Harrison, Mary Green, a step-son: the late Bruce Steckley, 10 Grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral ceremony took place at Heise Hill BIC Church, Gormley, Ontario, Canada.
Times, Roger Dean, a member of Gateway Community Church, passed away on May 5, 2006. He was 56 years old. He was a resident of Chino, CA since 1960 and graduated Chino High School class of 1968. Times was a carpenter by trade for 25 years, who also enjoyed cooking, gardening and camping. He is survived by his mother, Helen F. Times, sisters Joyce Beltran, Jacqueline Times and Tracie McKinnon and brothers Wayne Times and James McKinnon. The funeral ceremony took place at Bellevue Memorial Park, Ontario CA.
Wideman, Martha of Heise Hill BIC Church, Gormley, Ontario, passed away August 17, 2005. Born on August 17, 1909 in Ontario, to parents George & Annie Reesor Cober, she is survived by daughter Mary Sider, sons Elvin & Lawrence, sisters Mary Cober and Ada WInger as well as 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Deceased relatives include her husband Joseph and her daughter-in-law Barbara. Martha was always involved serving the Lord in many ways in the church from the age of 16 up until she was 89 years old. For 60 of those years she was a Sunday School teacher. Martha's focus over the last few years of her life had been prayer. Interment will be in the Heise Hill Cemetery.
Winger, Ada passed away on July 20, 2006. She was 91 years old. Ada was a Deacon’s wife at Heise Hill BIC Church for 25 years, serving others by organizing meals for “love feasts” and Bible Conferences, entertaining special speakers, member of sewing circle and much more. Ada kept busy by cooking meals, picking fruits, preparing and canning produce, making apple butter, baking for the market and the country store, and selling sweet corn. She was also a member of the Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary. A funeral ceremony took place at Heise Hill BIC ( Gormley, Ontario, Canada)
Winger, Clifford Leroy passed away on January 16, 2006. Born on June 21, 1910 to Alvin and Louisa Winger of Ridgeway, Ontario, Clifford served as Deacon at Heise Hill BIC Church for 23 years and became one of four Honorary Deacons in the BIC Church. He served as Sunday school teacher, trustee, church board member and treasurer. Clifford served with the Gideons from 1972 until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Ada; daughters Luella (John) and Ardys (Gary); and son Ivan (Brenda); as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at Heise Hill BIC Church in Gormley, Ontario and was officiated by Pastor Paul Penelton & Reverend Harvey Sider. Interment was at Heise Hill Cemetery, also in Gormley, ON.
