Lambdin, Dean, 41, died at home on January 31. Born on December 3, 1968, he grew up in Baltimore, Md., attending the Marlyn Avenue BIC (now Faith BIC) in Essex, Md. In 1994, two years after re-dedicating his life to Christ, Dean married Amy (Hulett). Five years later, God called the couple to enter ministry, and they moved to Iowa, where Dean received a bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministries at Vennard College (University Park) in 2002. He served as youth director at the Evangelical Church of Oskaloosa (Ill.) until 2001, and as a pastoral intern at Wright (Iowa) Union Community Church from 2000–2002. Dean was then assigned to Grace Chapel Evangelical Church (Milwaukee, Wisc.), where he served from 2002–2005, followed by three years with the Bangor Liberty Friends Church (Union, Iowa). He began his tenure as pastor of Morrison (Ill.) BIC in 2008 and continued through 2009. Surviving Dean are his wife, Amy, and daughters, Emily and Hannah. Visitation was on February 3 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral home and a funeral service took place on February 4 at Emmanuel Reformed Church (Morrison, Ill.).

Lehman, Rev. Simon A., Jr., 84, was born into a family of seven brothers and sisters on January 15, 1926 and went to his heavenly reward on January 28. He was a retired minister and had served as pastor of Mechanicsburg (Pa.) BIC, Roseglen BIC (Duncannon, Pa.), West Shore BIC (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), Fairview BIC (New Cumberland, Pa.) and Mowersville BIC (Newburg, Pa.). Simon had served on many boards and committees of the BIC Church, and helped to begin and plant three daughter churches. He is preceded in death by his parents and a step-mother, brothers Robert and Earl, and sisters Pauline and Gladys. Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, P. Kenneth; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Charles and Ronald and sister Betty. Funeral services were held at Mechanicsburg (Pa.) BIC on February 1. Burial took place at Longsdorf Cemetery in New Kingstown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart or Alzheimer’s Association of Central PA.

Wideman, Dorothy Pearl, was born in Gormley, ON, to Landon and Tena Steckley on April 1, 1921, the second child of five. A lifelong and active attendee of Heise Hill BIC, she gave her heart to the Lord at an early age. Dorothy married Murray Wideman in 1944 and moved to the Wideman Family Farm in Richmond Hill, ON, where she became a busy wife and mother of five—Shirley, Don, Joan, Dale, and Wendy. Murray passed away in 1964 after a short illness, leaving Dorothy a widow at the early age of 43. She soon sold the farm and moved the family to back to her hometown of Gormley. There, she took on a variety of jobs outside the home, finally finding her perfect fit at the Villa Private Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 1986. That same year, she eagerly moved into one of the new apartments at Parkview Village in Stoufville. She resided there until her short hospital stay near the end of her life. Dorothy enjoyed all of the activities associated at Parkview and made many friends. Throughout her life, she enjoyed travelling the U.S. and Canada extensively. At Heise Hill BIC, she served as a Deacon’s wife, a Sunday School teacher, an alto in a ladies group, a member of the Ladies Sewing Circle, the church organist, and a prayer warrior. She peacefully went home to be with the Lord on February 6, at the Markham–Stouffville Hospital, after a battle with Leukemia. A funeral, officiated by Pastor Steve Authier, was held at Heise Hill BIC, followed by interment at Heise Hill Cemetery. Dorothy is survived by her five children, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Beck, Lee Roy “Snooks,” of Mercersburg, Pa., passed away on March 19. Son of the late Jacob A. and Jennie C. (Pensinger) Beck, Lee Roy was born on October 14, 1932. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had been stationed in Alaska. A member of Mt. Tabor BIC (Mercersburg, Pa.) and plumber by trade, he operated a plumbing business with co-owner Web Cordell in Mercersburg. He also worked for 29 years for the Borough of Mercersburg, where the borough maintenance building is named in his honor. He is survived by a sister, Marie Harp; his companion of 25 years, Julia Grove; Grove’s four children, Robert Grove, Helen Cahalane, Laura Hess, and Susan Kendall; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Louise Brandt and Jane Ensminger; and brother, Jack Beck. Funeral services were held at Mt. Tabor BIC with Revs. Kevin Lay and Roy E. Brake officiating. Interment took place at Farview Cemetery (Mercersburg, Pa.).

Becker, John F., 70, of Pine Grove, Pa., passed away September 1 in Lebanon County. Born in Lincoln, Pa., on July 14, 1939, he was a son of the late William Henry Becker, Sr., and Minnie May Leffler Becker. He attended Tremont (Pa.) Township School and was a member of Tremont BIC. John worked as a cutter for the former Fox Knapp Mfg. (Pine Grove) and enjoyed volunteering at the Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, William, and Theodore, and two sisters, Dorothy Kreider and Minerva Lodish. Surviving are his four sisters, Gloria Kroh, Kathryn, and Erma, and Amy Hetrick, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on September 4, at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc. (Pine Grove) with Pastors Judy Fetrow and William Fetrow, Sr. officiating. Interment took place in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery (Ravine, Pa.).

Corbett, Sarah Elizabeth, 26, of Salina, Kans., died unexpectedly from a seizure on August 30. Born April 7, 1983, to Rick and Denise Corbett, Sarah was a member and friend to many at Revolution BIC (Salina). A graduate of Solomon (Kans.) High School and Kansas State University, Sarah worked as a co-manager at the local Bath and Body Works for five years. She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Alyssa Reddig and Katie Corbett; grandmother, Alma Corbett; nephew, Ashton Redigg; extended family members at Revolution BIC and Bath and Body Works; and two loving dogs, Charlie and Jack. Visitation was held at Ryan Mortuary (Salina) and funeral services at First Covenant Church (Salina) on September 3. Burial took place at Roselawn Cemetery (Salina) and was officiated by Rev. Jeff Piepho. Memorial gifts can be sent to Revolution BIC.

Fuentes, Israel, 64, of Ontario, Calif., went to be with the Lord on November 2 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Born on July 13, 1945, in San Benito, Texas, Israel was one of 10 children in the family of the late Guadalupe and Concepcion Fuentes. He received a Certificate in Hispanic Ministries from Goshen (Ind.) College and an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, Calif.). A pastor for more than 21 years at the Palabra de Vida Church (formerly Getesemany) in La Puenta, Calif., Israel was also involved with in leadership at various levels in the Pacific Conference, including serving on the Conference’s board of directors, the board for evangelism and church planting, and the Hispanic leadership council, and providing leadership training to church leaders in Salem, Ore. Affectionately known by his family as “Chachin,” he loved laughing, being with family and friends, and ministering to his church and beyond. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his faith all the way to the end. Israel is survived by Blanca Fuentes, his loving wife for over 37 years; his children, Israel, Jr., Rolando, and Lileana; his treasured grandchildren, Adrianna, Sharon, Michael, Jacob, Celeste, and Naythan; and countless other family and friends, who were blessed to know him.

Harper, Tom, 62, passed away on July 7. Born to Rufus and Ora Harper on March 23, 1947, in Webster Springs, W. Va., Tom grew up in Massillon, Ohio, where his father worked at a steel mill. At the age of 14, he began attending Amherst Community BIC (Massillon) and made a commitment to the Christian faith. He was greatly influenced by his Sunday school teacher, Ruth Buckwalter. It was at Amherst that Tom first became involved on a Bible quiz team. Later, he would serve as coach for several teams. Beginning in January 1967, Tommy served two years of alternate service in maintenance at Niagara Christian College (Fort Erie, ON), where he met Connie, whom he married in 1971. By 1982, they had four daughters, and the family lived in the Hamilton, ON, area for 10 years, then in Caledonia, ON, for 20. During this time, Tom worked in retail first with the F. W. Woolworth Company, and then with Stedmans. For all of these years, he was a faithful member of Ridgemount BIC, serving as Sunday school teacher, youth leader, deacon, and small group leader. In 2000, the family moved to Dunnville, ON, where Tom was working for Giant Tiger. He would come full circle and end his career life again working in maintenance, this time at the Wainfleet BIC (Ridgeway, ON). In 2006, he resigned, due to ill health. Throughout his life, Tom was devoted to the ministry of Camp Kahquah (Magnetawan, ON), serving as a counselor in his younger years and attending Family Camp with his wife and daughters every summer for over three decades. He was as an expert fisherman, and was skilled at cleaning and deep-frying his trademark fish nuggets, which he served to others with delight. Tom is survived by his wife, Connie (Marr); daughters, Amy Fraser, Adrienne Harper, Alicia Harper, and Alison Wills; siblings, Billy, Ellen Chadwick, Bobby, Wanda Solon, John, Rodger, and Carolyn Jackson; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Ora (Westfall) Harper; brother, Carl; and grandchild, Orie. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Charlie Mashinter, were held at Wainfleet BIC and interment took place at Maple Lawn Cemetery.

Hixson, Delores I., 64, passed away on May 12. Born on July 5, 1944, Delores was the daughter of the late Carl F. Ott, Sr., and Martha (Imler) Ott. She worked at Sheetz (McKee, Pa.) for 13 years and played the organ at her church, Martinsburg (Pa.) BIC Church, for 17 years. Delores was preceded in death by five brothers, George, John, Bill, Roy, and Carl Ott. She is survived by her husband, Clair Hixson; daughter, Angie Swartz; son, Owen L. Hixson; brother, Kenneth Ott; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Martinsburg BIC with Rev. Earl E. Herr officiating. Interment took place at Dry Hill Cemetery (Woodbury, Pa.).

Hughes, Ed, 79, a missionary in Haiti and member of Sauble Christian Fellowship (Sauble Beach, ON), has passed away. Born in 1935, Ed did not know Christ for the first five decades of his life. However, this changed dramatically when he began to serve the poverty-stricken children in his neighborhood, situated 50 miles north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, by bringing them food and medicine. His work turned into a program that grew to provide food, clothing, and transportation to school for up to 100 children. Eventually, he established Tytoo Gardens, an orphanage that houses 35 children ranging in age from 3 to 20. He also sought out the vulnerable elderly in the village, bringing them food, as well. Funeral services were held earlier this year, with Pastor Dave Oppertshauser officiating. A handful of adults and hundreds of children touched by his compassion and generosity attended the event. Inquiries about memorial donations in support of Tytoo Gardens and other ministries to the orphans of Haiti can be directed to Pastor Dave at Sauble Christian Fellowship.

Kiss, Frank, 74, of Halaszi, Hungary, died on May 30. Born January 21, 1935, he emigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1957 and became a member of Wainfleet (ON) BIC in 1975. A dedicated Christian and family man, Frank is survived by his wife, Cathy; eight children, Frank, Mike, John, Kim Marr, Kathy, Penny Smith, Paul, and Heide Derksen; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral officiated by Rev. Charles Mashinter was held at Wainfleet BIC, followed by burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery.

Kniesley, Vivian Seese, sister of Grace Cassel and mother to Keith and Ken Kniesley, passed away September 24. A graduate of Upland (Calif.) College in the class of 1950, she was living in West Milton, Ohio, at the time of her death. Though Vivian lost her sight when her sons were very young, she was able to care for them, in addition to having a full-time job as a medical transcriber in a Dayton, Ohio, hospital. She was a blessing to those she met and never considered her blindness as a handicap but as an opportunity to express her faith. She said many times, “The Lord has healed my blindness—I just can’t see.”

Korman, John F., 78, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and a former resident of the Mifflinburg, Pa.- area, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 12. Born on March 25, 1930, in Hartleton, Pa., he was the son of the late William C. and Edna (Lutz) Korman. A graduate of the Mifflinburg (Pa.) High School, Class of 1948, he owned and operated a dairy farm for 10 years in the Hartleton area before joining the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. For his outstanding accomplishments as a farmer, John received the American Farmer Degree in 1951. He retired as a district sales manager with Potacan Inc., following many years of employment in similar positions with Allied Chemical and the Potash Corporation of America. He was a member of Dillsburg (Pa.) BIC and the Penn State Lime and Fertilizer Conference. John enjoyed many hobbies, including traveling, gardening, hunting, reading, and watching and playing golf. John will be remembered for many things but especially his unique sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille (Musser) Korman; two daughters, Kathleen R. Smith and Sharon K. Hershey; a son, John M. Korman; three sisters, Sarah Eisler, Ethel Schnure, and Kathryn Moraski; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Korman. Memorial services were held March 21 at Dillsburg BIC with Rev. Phil Keefer officiating, and a private burial took place at Sunny Side Cemetery (York Springs, Pa.). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pa., P.O. Miller, “Bud” Conda S., of Everett, Pa., died on September 12 at the age of 48. Son of Earl I Miller and Ina Mae (Ritchey) Miller, he was born on January 23, 1961 and attended Clear Creek BIC (Everett). He is survived by his wife, Lori A. (Decker) Miller; one son, Lane S.; two daughters, Linsey A. and Lexie J.; one grandson, Nathan R. Roy; brothers and sisters, Earl I. Miller, Jr., Kathie Wenger, Dawn Elaine Leister, Randy, Brian, Timothy, Roy, and Tricia Feight; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral was held at Clear Creek BIC with Pastor John Geyer, Rev. H Lee Ritchey, and Rev. Curtis Bryant officiating. Interment took place at Everett Cemetery.

Miller, Rev. Henry N., 79, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord on September 2, following a full life of ministry. Born October 31, 1929, to Henry and Sarah Miller, Henry, Jr., grew up in Clinton County, Pa., where his father was a BIC pastor for 29 years. After graduating from Upland (Calif.) College in 1951, he became licensed with the BIC Church that same year and served as pastor at Zion BIC (Abilene, Kans.) from 1956–1968, Upland (Calif.) BIC from 1968–1973, Fairview BIC (Englewood, Ohio) from 1973–1985, Fellowship Chapel (Bronx, N.Y.) from 1985–1992, and Highland BIC (West Milton, Ohio) from 1992–1995. He also did several interim pastorates after that. Henry was preceded in death by Martha, his wife of 51 years, in 2003. He is survived by their four children, Bill, Heidi Reese, Karen Wenger, and Mary Anne Rodriques.

Rutt, J. Mark, 94, passed away on November 5. Born in West Donegal Township, Pa., to the late John L. and Mary (Shenk) Rutt, Mark served as a mail carrier in Millersville, Pa., for over 25 years. He and his late wife, Grace (Hensel) Rutt, also volunteered at Kenbrook Bible Camp (Lebanon, Pa.) for a number of years. Mark is survived by his children, Grace Steinbrecher, Anna Yeatts, Kathleen Neuman, Rev. Charles E. Rutt, John M. Rutt, Jr., and William A Rutt, as well as by 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Following the funeral, which was held at his home church, Lancaster (Pa.) BIC, and which was officiated by Rev. D. Ernst, interment took place at Bossler’s Mennonite Cemetery (Elizabethtown, Pa.).

Slofstra, Mitchell Allan, 44, a lay minister at Cheapside (ON) BIC, passed away on October 3. A dedicated and devoted Christian husband, father, and family man, Mitch is survived by his wife, Marsha (Lofthouse), and three children whom he loved very much: Natthan, Klairissa, and Austin. He was the loving son of Beverley and the late Allan Slofstra, and the brother of Irene Veldhuis, Eric, and Sophia Schott. He will also be missed by his father-in-law, Keith Lofthouse; brother-in-law, Mark Lofthouse; and many nieces and nephews. He was a fighter to the end of his battle with cancer and will be remembered for his saying, “God is real! Trust and obey.”

Smith, George “Dick,” died on June 21, just four days after celebrating his 85th birthday. Son of the late Austin and Mary (McNaight) Smith, Dick was born on June 17, 1924 in Thompsontown, Pa. An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors and traveling with his wife, Edie, with whom he visited all 48 contiguous states. Dick is survived by his daughter, Sharon Kepner; son, Randy; one grandson; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandson. Pastor Steve Munger and Rev. M. Eugene Heidler officiated the funeral service, which was held at Cedar Grove BIC (Mifflintown, Pa.), and interment was held at Union Memorial Gardens (Mifflintown).

Smith, Ronald R., 68, died on December 17. Born on April 21, 1941, to Emmert W. and E. Grace (Rhodes) Smith, he was a graduate of Central High School (Martinsburg, Pa.), where he participated in basketball and was voted Most Valuable Player following his 1959–1960 year. He retired as owner/operator of Smith’s Used Cars with over 20 years of service. Previously, he had worked as staff manager at American Life Insurance Company of Altoona, Pa. He enjoyed gardening, camping, the outdoors, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda L.; children, Michael Troy and Roni Sue Shaw; sister, Aneta A. Claire; and six grandchildren. A funeral was held December 21 at Ronald’s church, Martinsburg (Pa.) BIC, with Rev. Earl E. Herr officiating.

Taylor, Paul D., 69, of Waynesboro, Pa., died on March 12 in his home after nine months of failing health and two weeks of critical illness. Born May 4, 1939, in East Berlin, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry C. and Mabel J. (Hawbaker) Taylor and the husband of Mary (Willison)Taylor, who he married on June 24, 1960. Paul worked for Frick (Waynesboro, Pa.) in his early years, then at Grove Worldwide (Shady Grove, Pa.) as a crane operator for 34 years, and then part-time at Quincy (Pa.) Hardware Store following his retirement in 2001. He was a member of Fairview Avenue BIC (Waynesboro, Pa.), where he served as a deacon, trustee, usher, cook, church board member, and leader for Boys Brigade. An avid sportsman, he played for the semi-pro Waynesboro Tigers for five years and coached Little League teams for 20 years and the Waynesboro Stallions for 10. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Paul and Mike Taylor; two granddaughters, Moriah and Trista Taylor; four brothers, Galen, Gerald, Lowell, and Keith; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marlin. A funeral service, officiated by Pastors Carlos Rosado and J. Shannon Benshoff, was held March 16 at Fairview Avenue BIC. Burial followed at Green Hill Cemetery (Waynesboro). Memorial contributions can be made to Fairview Avenue BIC or Lutheran Home Hospice (Chambersburg, Pa.).

Thuma, Dr. Alvan E., the first medical doctor to serve under the auspices of Brethren in Christ World Missions, died peacefully at the age of 78 on August 12, at Messiah Village (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), where he had been a resident for 10 years. Born December 19, 1921, in Miami County, Ohio, Alvan was the son of the late Benjamin “Frank” and Fanny (Etter) Thuma. After completing medical school, he and his wife, Ardys, sailed for Africa in April 1951 with their two young sons. He worked as a doctor in the women and children’s ward at Mtshabezi Mission Hospital in present-day Zimbabwe for a little over three years. In 1954, the family moved to Choma, Zambia, where Dr. Thuma was instrumental in transforming the small clinic at the Macha Mission into what is today the Macha Mission Hospital. During his years at the hospital, the number of government-approved beds increased to 208 and the number of specialized wards rose to five. In addition to his service with BIC World Missions, Alvan worked for the Zambian government, serving in Livingstone, Mazabuka, Choma, and then Lusaka, where, as medical superintendent, he oversaw the 1,000-plus beds of the University Teaching Hospital at the University of Zambia come into being. Upon returning to the United States in the 1970s, he joined a family practice in Arcanum, Ohio, where he continued until his retirement. In 2003, he was awarded a Distinguished Service Order (DSO) medal by the Zambian government for his years of dedication and service. Dr. Thuma is survived by Ardys E. (Engle), his loving wife of 63 years; their four children, Merl, Philip, Wanda Thuma-McDermond, and Barbara; his sister, Esther Teunon; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A viewing and memorial service were held on August 19, at Messiah Village BIC, with a burial following in the Grantham (Pa.) Memorial Park. On Monday, August 24, a memorial service was held in Dr. Thuma’s honor at the Macha Hospital. Schauer, Faye E. Lehman, of Dauphin County, Pa., passed away on February 28. Daughter of the late J. Roy and Rhoda M. (Bert) Asper, Faye was born on August 25, 1924. She was the wife of Albert J. Schauer, of Dover, Pa., to whom she was married for nearly 10 years. She and her first husband, the late Joseph D. Lehman, Jr., were married for 50 years. A graduate of Mechanicsburg (Pa.) High School and Messiah Junior College (Grantham, Pa.), Faye retired as a unit secretary from York (Pa.) Hospital. Prior to that, she was a seamstress of custom draperies. A well-loved member of Pathway Community Church (York, Pa.) and a member of the York Rescue Mission Ladies Auxiliary, Faye is survived by her daughters, Lucy A. Mellinger, Karen F. Gonzol, and Joyce E. Givler; stepson, Donald Pflieger; sister, Beulah G. Frady; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and nine step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, G. Bert Asper and Calvin R. Asper. Funeral services were held at Pathway Community Church and interment took place at Mount Rose Cemetery (York) with Pastors Adin Herndon, John Cressman, and Charles Lehman officiating.

Swisher, Shirley M., of Greencastle, Pa., passed away on March 15. Daughter of the late Stanley L. and Claire E. (Carbaugh) Gelsinger, she married her late husband Jerry on September 1, 1961. She was a member of Mt. Tabor BIC (Mercersburg, Pa.). A homemaker for many years, Shirley volunteered with the American Cancer Society’s Dafodil Days and enjoyed making crafts, gardening, dancing, and spending time with her friends. She is survived by a son, Jerry Swisher; daughter, Lucinda Hilde; brother, Melvin Gelsinger; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home (Greencastle, Pa.), with Pastor Kevin Lay officiating. Interment took place in Parklawns Memorial Gardens (Chambersburg, Pa.).

Vengin, Gladys M., 81, of Llewellyn, Pa., passed away on September 24 at her residence. Born in Millersburg, Pa., on November 28, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Lauver) and Cyrus Landis, the latter of whom was the founder of her lifelong church, Hillside Chapel (Llewellyn). She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, in 1990. Surviving are daughters Joyce Beach and Patricia Boris; a son, Robert; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held September 26, at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc. (Minersville, Pa.) with the Rev. Judy Fetrow officiating. Interment was held in Llewellyn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillside Chapel.

Walker, Alice Eleanor, 80, of Blandburg, Pa., died on August 23. Born to Enlow and Catherine (Bouch) Campbell on June 19, 1929, she married Rev. Marion R. Walker on November 23, 1950. A devoted pastor’s wife and homemaker, Alice also worked as a nurse’s aid at Woodland Retirement Center (Orbisonia, Pa.) and did housecleaning for several families in the area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Walker. She is survived by three sons, Enlow, Mark, and Thomas; two daughters, Rhoda Ciampa and Vera Joy Stevens; a brother, Enlow Campbell, Jr.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service, officiated by Revs. Mel Brubaker and Neil Stevens, was held at her home church of Center Grove BIC (Three Springs, Pa.). Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery (Three Springs).

Winger, Benjamin Gordon, 95, of Cayuga, ON, passed away on April 29. He was born on June 19, 1913, to Catherine and Jesse Winger. Over his 85+ years of membership at Wainfleet (ON) BIC Church, he served as deacon for 30 years and treasurer for several years in the 1960s. Benjamin is survived by his wife, Orpha; children, Barbara Cassel, Janet Fick, Keith, Karen Sherk, and Larry; sister, Annie Sider; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services at Wainfleet BIC were conducted by Rev. Charles Mashinter and Rev. John R. Sider, and interment occurred at Zion Cemetery.

Winger, Reta Marion (Main), 92, of Wainfleet, ON, passed away on June 3. Daughter of William and Emily Main, Reta was born on July 21, 1916, and had been a member of Wainfleet BIC for 54 years. She loved to crochet and read her Bible. Reta was preceded in death by her husband in 2007 and a daughter. She is survived by four children, Valerie Nuxoll, Marilyn Dean, Melvin, and Patricia Freeman; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. A funeral was held at Wainfleet BIC with Rev. Charles Mashinter and Rev. John R. Sider officiating. Interment took place at Zion Cemetery.

Wirrick, Barbara E., of Lewistown, Pa., died April 4. Born on October 27, 1945 to the late Glen and Viola (Swartz) Berryman, Barb volunteered for various organizations in her community and her church, Cedar Grove BIC (Mifflintown, Pa.). She and her husband, Phillip, served as foster parents to over 100 children. In addition to her husband, Barb is survived by four children, Sonya L. Sheaffer, Shelley L. Boullianne, David Warrick, and Elizabeth M. Kreiser; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Fairview BIC (New Cumberland, Pa.) with Rev. Kenneth Keller officiating, and interment took place at Tri-County Memorial Gardens (Lewisberry, Pa.).

Yazzie, John Peter, of the Navajo BIC Mission (Farmington, N.M.), passed away on January 19. Born in 1912, John Peter came to the Navajo Mission in 1953 at the request of J. Wilmer Heisey, then-superintendent/pastor. According to Heisey, John Peter “did counseling, visitation, interpretation, and . . . preached many a sermon at the mission church” and other local BIC congregations. He was known by nearby Native American communities as “a man whose words and actions came together to demonstrate the love of Jesus,” according to Duane Bristow, director of the Navajo Mission. John Peter was 95.

Zeigler, Miranda K., 14, daughter of Jeff and Tammi Zeigler, passed away from Leukemia on January 30 at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (Hershey, Pa.). Born in Anchorage, Ala., Miranda was a first-year student at Northern High School (Dillsburg, Pa.) and a member of Cumberland Valley BIC (Dillsburg) and its Lifehouse Youth Group. She was also active in the Dillsburg Girls Softball League and Northern Field Hockey. In addition to her loving parents, Miranda is survived by her brother, Scott, and her half-brother, Shawn Antzcheck. A memorial service was held on February 2 at Cumberland Valley BIC with Pastors Fred and Jeff Miller officiating.

Agee, L. Bedsaul, 71, passed away on June 3. Born in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia on May 29, 1937, he gave his life to Christ in his early twenties and married Verda Mae on November 1, 1957. He pastored several Brethren in Christ churches throughout his lifetime, starting with Adney Gap (Va.) BIC in 1958. Bedsaul enrolled at Messiah College (Grantham, Pa.) in 1962 and was ordained in 1968. He gave almost three decades of service to Bethel (Merrill) BIC (Merrill, Mich.), retiring in 2005.

Blackketter, James Eugene, 83, passed away on October 29. James was born on January 17, 1925, in Bacca County, Co., to the late Koert C. and Nellie (Studebaker) Blackketter. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and married Ruth Heisey in 1953. After receiving his college degree from Oklahoma A&M, James taught vocational agriculture and sciences classes for a time and then spent the rest of his days as a rancher and farmer on the family ranch. An active member of Red Star BIC (Leedey, Okla.), he served for many years as a deacon and served on numerous occasions as a regional and general conference delegate. In his community, James served on the Roger Mills County Fair Board and the County Farm Bureau. He was also active on Northfork Electric Cooperative Board for 41 years and on the Western Farmers Board 34 years, serving terms as president on both boards. He was instrumental in the formation of the Red Star Water District and was inducted into the Western Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters, Iris Blackketter and Ariel Lohberger; sons, Lynn, Lyle, and Loy; brothers, Don and Lewis; sister, Betty; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by sisters Esther Bailey and Janiece. Services were held at Red Star BIC, with David McGarvey and Charles Rickel officiating. Interment occurred at Red Star Cemetery.  

Blackstone, Walter G. “Joe,” 72, of Hollidaysburg, Pa., passed away on April 2. Born July 26, 1935, to the late Rev. Walter Sr. and Mildred (Westover) Blackstone, Walter is survived by his wife, Esther (Ritchey) Blackstone; sons, Glenn, Jeffrey, Joseph, and Robert; daughter, Karin Vance; sisters, Delores Thomas and Miriam Musselman; and brother, Phillip. Services were held at Dalla Valle Funeral Chapel in Everett, Pa., with Rev. H. Lee Ritchey and Glenn Blackstone presiding. Interment occurred at Everett Cemetery.

Brechbill, Ray Climenhaga, 98, of Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, Pa., entered into eternity on March 19. Born February 9, 1910, to the late Jessie and Abigail Brechbill, Ray attended Messiah College (Grantham, Pa.) for two years and transferred to Taylor University (Upland, Ind.) to complete his studies. He earned a B.A. in English in 1933 and moved to Washington, D.C., where he began a long and successful career at ADT Security Services. In 1942, Ray married Helen Roberta Renaldue. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1945. After his active duty service, he returned to work at ADT and in 1949 was transferred to company headquarters in New York City. Ray and Roberta lived for over 50 years in Tenafly, N.J., where he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and golfing. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Englewood, N.J. Ray is survived by his wife, Roberta; sons, Alan and Glen; two grandchildren, Sarah and John; and sisters, Anna Martin, Ruth Zercher, and Lois Musser. He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Musser. Interment took place at the George Washington Memorial Park (Paramus, N.J.).

Cassady, Myrna F., 78, of Elizabethtown, Pa., passed away on November 24. Born July 8, 1930, in Waltham, Mass., to the late Charles and Hazel (Taylor) Gesner, Myrna married Curtis Cassady in 1948. The couple lived in North Haverhill, N.H., and West Rutland, Vt., and finally settled in Lititz, Pa., where they lived for 30 years before moving to Rheems Assisted Living Facility (Elizabethtown, Pa.). She is survived by her husband, Curt; son, Gary; three daughters, Judi, Laurie, and Leanne; brother, Gordon; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Lancaster (Pa.) BIC Church, with Pastor James D. Ernst officiating, and the burial will take place in the spring.

Clark, Lois L., 83, of Everett, Pa., passed into eternity on December 3. Daughter of Scot H. and Lena (McFarland) Ritchey, she attended Clear Creek BIC (Everett, Pa.), of which her mother was a founding member, throughout her lifetime. She was a homemaker who worked with her husband and children to support the family’s owner-operated truck company. Lois enjoyed sewing, crocheting, arranging flowers, ceramics, and painting wooden crafts made by her husband. Surviving Lois are her children, Sandra L. Koontz, Barry D. Clark, Sydney M. Rose, and Russell E. Clark, Jr.; sisters, Ina Miller, M. Esther Blackstone, and Alice M. Ritchey; brothers, Clair F. Ritchey, Rev. H. Lee Ritchey, William C. Ritchey, John M. Ritchey, and Rev. James R. Ritchey. Funeral services and interment were held at Union Memorial Church and Cemetery (Everett, Pa.) with Rvs. Curtis Bryant and H. Lee Ritchey officiating.

Climenhaga, John Leroy, 91, of Delisle, SK, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 27. Awarded a B.A. Honours degree in Physics and Mathematics in 1945 and an M.S. in Physics in 1949 from the University of Saskatchewan, he joined the faculty of Victoria College (now the University of Victoria) in 1949. While teaching physics there, he began research in astronomy at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Saanich, work that would lead to an M.S. in astronomy, and, in 1960, to a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He was an effective advocate of the college’s transformation into a university and of its establishment of an Astronomy department, and served as head of the physics department until 1969, then as Dean of Arts and Sciences until 1972. In the two subsequent years, John spent a sabbatical carrying out research and teaching in Japan, South Africa, and Poland. After his retirement in 1982, a scholarship for astronomy or physics students at the University of Victoria was established in his name and the school’s new observatory was named after him. During retirement, John continued to teach for 12 years and gave many popular talks on astronomy in the community. On his 70th birthday, he was honoured by the International Astrophysical Union when it assigned the name “Climenhaga” to an eight-kilometre asteroid (Minor Planet 3034 Climenhaga), which orbits the sun between Mars and Jupiter. In 1996, UVic granted him the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science. John was a man of faith, loved and respected by his family and friends. He was known for his steadfastness and for his commitment to his family, church, friends, and colleagues. A funeral service was held for John on June 3 at Emmanuel Baptist Church (Victoria, BC). He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Grace (Garratt). He is survived by his second wife, Ila; daughter, Joan Millar; son, David; grandchildren, Kathryn Robin Climenhaga and Lily Maeve Climenhaga; and many nieces and nephews.

Ebersole, Merle E., of Messiah Village (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and formerly of Martinsburg, Pa., passed away on December 14 at the age of 85. Born to Jacob M. and Savina (Stewart) Ebersole and a graduate of Morrison Cove High School, he worked on his parent’s farm and was a service station attendant and a staff announcer with radio station WKMC for 19 years. He retired from CTR Supply in Duncansville, Pa., and earned his solo pilot’s license at the Blair County Airport in Martinsburg, Pa. A dual member of Messiah Village BIC (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Martinsville BIC, Merle served as a Sunday school teacher, board member, Sunday school superintendent, and sound technician. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three daughters, Jane Ebersole, Nancy Brandt, and Martha Sider; son, Merle, Jr.; sister, Marie Bechtel; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his stepbrothers, Elmer, Simon, and Fred, and his stepsisters, Elda Dilling and Mary Schmitt. A funeral service was held at Martinsburg BIC with Rev. Earl E. Herr officiating. Interment took place at Spring Hope Cemetery (Martinsburg).

Fries, Dorothy J., 84, of Messiah Village (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), passed away on October 2. She was diagnosed with leukemia in May 2008. Born August 14, 1924, in Millersburg, Pa., to the late Clarence E. and Nettie A. (Hunter) Boyer, Dorothy was a member of the Dillsburg (Pa.) BIC Church. She is survived by her husband, John, Sr.; son, John, III; daughter, Mary Riggins; sister, Betty Swartz; and eight grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Bradley. Services were held at Dillsburg BIC, with Rev. James Spurrier officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery (Millersburg, Pa.). Garber, Mary Anne, 65, of Ronks, Pa., passed away on November 22, after sustaining injuries from a car accident. Born on July 15, 1947, in Lancaster, Pa., to Ruth (Buckwalter) Weaver and the late J. Robert Ruhl, Mary Anne enjoyed collecting teddy bears and loved decorating. As a volunteer, she made meals for her church, Refton (Pa.) BIC, and catered for several local charities. Mary Anne enjoyed reading and listening to music (especially Christmas carols), as well as travelling to Washington, D.C. with her family. She was employed by Lancaster (Pa.) Mennonite School, and had also recently worked for Stoltzfus Meats (New Castle, Del.). She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Paul; mother, Ruth B. Weaver; and daughter, Dawn M. Darling. Services were held at the Mellinger Mennonite Church (Lancaster, Pa.), with Joseph Miller & Jason Kuniholm officiating. Interment occurred at Paradise (Pa.) Mennonite Cemetery.

Henderson, Blanche Eileen died peacefully at Markham (ON) Stouffville Hospital on August 20. Loving sister of Bernice Cassel and Ruth, and the late Myrtle Scharbach, Helen Climenhage, Freda, and Melvin, she will also be sadly missed by dear family friend, Dorothy Good, and all her nieces and nephews: Ross, Edward, and Trevor Climenhage; Paul and Blanche Cassel; Carmon Henderson; Nan Williamson; Pat Harris; and Deborah Whiteman. Her courage and loving spirit were an inspiration to all who knew her. A funeral service was held at Oak Ridges BIC (Richmond Hill, ON) on August 22, 2008. Kern, Dilys, 90, of Wales, UK, passed away on April 3. Daughter of the late Albert and Sussannah (Rogers) Hughes and wife of the late Harold Landis Kern, Dilys worked at the Milton Hershey (Pa.) School in the Food Management and Service Department before moving to Lancaster (Pa.), where she then was as a part-time cashier at K-mart. She also volunteered at St. Anne Parochial School, St. Joseph Hospital, and Lancashire Hall. Spiritual, energetic, and an avid reader, Dilys loved her grandchildren and enjoyed her dogs. Preceding Dilys in death were her husband; parents; two daughters, Dianne Watson and Gail Balmer; brother, Purcell Hughes; and sister, Hilda Hughes. She is survived by her daughter, D. Suzanne Solodky; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services were held at Lancaster (Pa.) BIC.

Kipe, Rev. Amos Lloyd, of Waynesboro, Pa., passed away on January 30. Born April 11, 1924, Amos was the son of the late George H. and Katie M. (Varner) Kipe. He was first employed by Wayne Tool Company (Waynesboro, Pa.) in the early 1940s. He later worked as a chauffer for Montebello State Hospital in Baltimore, Md., from 1958 to 1960. From 1960 until his retirement in 1989, he was employed as a tool inspector for Landis Machine Company (Waynesboro, Pa.). He also served as the pastor of the Iron Springs BIC Church (Fairfield, Pa.) congregation from 1945 to 1980. In April 1980, he was ordained in
the Brethren in Christ Church. Amos married Verna Belle (Lohman) Kipe on September 1, 1945. She preceded him in death on October 11, 1996. He then married Dorotha P. (Witmer) Parmer Kipe on May 23, 1998, who survives. At the time of his death, Amos was a member of the Antrim BIC Church (Chambersburg, Pa.). During a visit with his pastor just hours before his death, Amos shared these words of comfort: “I’m looking for that door to open and for Christ to welcome me home. This is not a funeral, but a graduation. It should be a celebration! I have no fear. I am sure that when I pass, the Lord will be there at the door to take me in.”

Kipe, George D., 89, of the Menno Haven Retirement Communities in Chambersburg, Pa., passed away on October 27. A retired minister of the BIC Church, George was born on December 29, 1918, near Waynesboro, Pa., to the late George and Katie (Varner) Kipe. He graduated in 1938 from the Washington Township (Pa.) High School and, over his 32-year-tenure as a BIC pastor, served at six different BIC churches, including Speedwell Heights BIC (Lititz, Pa.) and Tremont (Pa.) BIC. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and found enjoyment in his family, woodworking, his home in Florida, and gospel music. George is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Sara E. (Alleman); son, Leroy; daughters, Lois Buckwalter, Joy Sider, Karen Eppig, and Gail Wenger; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald, and four brothers, Andy, John, David, and Amos.

Letner, Kenneth Ray entered into the Lord’s presence on September 4, at the age of 56 following a courageous battle against cancer. Throughout his more than three decades of ministry within the BIC Church, Ken was known as a visionary leader, a wise teacher, a supportive colleague, and a humble follower of Jesus Christ whose refreshing vulnerability endeared him to all who knew him. Born September 22, 1951, to the late Aloysius and Ruth Letner, Ken was introduced to the BIC Church during his student days at Messiah College (Grantham, Pa.), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science in 1973. It was also at the college that he met his life partner, Linda Chubb, to whom he was married for 34 years. Ken earned a Master of Divinity degree from Ashland (Ohio) Theological Seminary in 1978. Ken’s leadership within the General Church began in 1982 when he was named to the position of director of Christian education for the Atlantic Conference and associate director of Christian education for the General Conference. In 1984, Ken took on the role of executive director for the denomination’s board for congregational life, a position that drew on his organizing and teaching skills. Over the next decade, Ken served as assistant moderator for the Atlantic and then for the Susquehanna Conference. The Cedar Grove BIC Church (Mifflintown, Pa.) called Ken to be their senior pastor in 1991. A beloved shepherd from the start, Ken led the congregation for more than a decade, working especially to identify and help grow other leaders in the church. Ken stepped forward in joyful obedience when he was called to lead the Susquehanna Conference as bishop in 2002, a post which he filled joyfully until his diagnosis prompted a medical leave in January 2008. Ken is survived by his wife, Linda; three sons, Kyle, Kurtis, and James; two granddaughters, Makayla and Natalie; grandson, Logan; and sister, Susanne Cooper. He was preceded in death by one sister, Darl Franklin. A viewing and family greeting was held on September 9 at Cedar Grove BIC. A subsequent memorial service was held at Grantham BIC on September 9.

Main, Ruth, 97, passed away on November 12. She was born on February 11, 1911, to the late Darius and Anna Sider in Wainfleet, ON. She and her late husband, Basil, were members of the Wainfleet (ON) BIC Church before transferring to Rosebank BIC (Petersburg, ON). She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, George Sider; and sister, Marion Sider. She is survived by daughters Lois Long, Donna Ruegg, and Nancy Sider; sons Paul and James; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom had a special place in her heart. Services were held at Wainfleet BIC with Charles Mashinter & John R. Sider officiating. Interment occurred at Maple Lawn Cemetery (Wainfleet, ON).

Marr, Naomi Ruth (Heise), 86, of Townsend, ON, passed away on June 16. Born September 10, 1921, in Darjeeling, India, to the late Clarence and Ruth (Brechbill) Heise, Naomi married Merlin Marr in 1948 and celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage just days before her death. Naomi was a long-time member of Springvale (ON) BIC Church. A registered nurse by trade, she worked for many years in the Hagersville Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Merlin; two daughters, Lucille and Connie; son, Ron; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Phyllis and brother Clarence. Services were held at Springvale BIC with Reverend Al Thompson and Reverend Harvey Sider officiating.

Mellinger, Rhoda J., 67, passed away on September 9. Born November 7, 1940, in Lancaster, Pa., to the late Samuel and Kathryn Wiker, Rhoda earned a degree in elementary education from Millersville (Pa.) University and taught at Locust Grove Mennonite School and in the Lampter-Strausburg School District for over 20 years. An active member of Refton (Pa.) BIC Church, she was an avid reader and writer of poetry. She is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Elaine Brubaker; son, Donald; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Lester; and two sisters. Rhoda was preceded in death by sisters Lois Wiker and Evelyn Hess Groff. Services were held at Refton BIC with Rev. Michael L. Anderson officiating. Interment occurred at New Providence (Pa.) Mennonite Cemetery.

Mellott, Zelma Ruth, 82, of Everett, Pa., passed away on February 23. Born October 27, 1925, to Russell and Olive (Bussard) Mellott, Zelma attended Martinsburg (Pa.) BIC Church. She was a graduate of Strayer College in Washington, D.C., and began her working career as a secretary to the vice president of Kaiser Aluminum. Zelma then worked on Capitol Hill as a secretary for Congressman John Jennings, Jr., of Tennessee. Following these assignments and throughout her career, she maintained several Defense Department positions at the Pentagon, working for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. She also worked for NATO and then in the office of the Secretary of Defense, retiring from government service in 1977. Zelma had a brother, Glenn Mellott, and three sisters, Vera Diggs, Mable Whipkey, and Marge Hartmann, precede her in death. Surviving are her son, Russell Davis; two granddaughters; great-grandson; sister, Geri Horton; and sister-in-law, Mary Mellott. The funeral was held at Martinsburg BIC and was officiated by Pastor Earl E. Herr. Interment took place at Mount Union Cemetery (Mench, Pa.).

Miller, Glenn E., 76, passed away on June 13. Born January 22, 1932, to the late Conda and Leta (Stewart) Miller, Glenn attended the Martinsburg (Pa.) BIC Church. A dairy farmer until his retirement in 2002, Glenn—known for his mechanical ingenuity—served as a member of the Northern Bedford School Board and of the Board of Directors at Curryville AGWAY. He is preceded in death by brothers Jacob, John, Amos, and Harry, and sister Ruth Kenyon. He is survived by his wife Barbara; two daughters, Diane Thornton and Melinda Smith; two sons, Larry and Robert; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Nissley; and brother, Earl. The funeral was held at Martinsburg BIC, with Rev. Earl E. Herr officiating. Interment took place at Dry Hill Cemetery (Woodbury, Pa.).

Miller, Trena M., of Mechanicsburg, Pa., passed into eternity on February 19. Born on September 15, 1913, to the late Boyd B. and Vergie Brown, Trena was known for her smile, which she shared freely with all. A gifted housewife and mother who enjoyed a variety of handicrafts, she shared 62 years of marriage with Joe D. Miller. During that time, Trena faithfully and lovingly supported Joe as he served as a deacon at Ransom Creek Community BIC Church (Clarence Center, N.Y.) and then at Messiah Village BIC Church (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) when they moved to Messiah Village in 1986. Trena was preceded in death by Joe, who passed away in 1996; three brothers, Forest, Merrill, and Donald Brown; and one sister, Faye Martin. She is survived by her daughters, Edith Miller and Sharon Herr; son, Gilbert Miller; sister, Anna Schrock; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Messiah Village BIC and officiated by Reverend Richard L. Long. Interment took place at Grantham (Pa.) Memorial Park.

Moore, Arnold, 61, passed away on September 28. He was born on February 8, 1947, in Wainfleet, ON, to the late John & Faye Moore. He is survived by Lynda, his wife of 35 years; brother, Gerald; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don. Ott, Doris Irene, 76, passed away on September 23. Born November 19, 1932, to the late Lawrence and Orpha (Clapper) Bowser, in Roaring Spring, Pa., Doris was a homemaker who loved her God and family. She is survived by her husband, Harry; daughters, Linda Ott, Diane Parrot, and Deloris Ott; two sons, Lowell and David; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Bruce. Robison, Frances E., 85, of Woodbury Township, Pa., passed away on March 7. Daughter of the late Harvey D. and Elenor M. (Cridge) Bechtel and wife of the late Theodore J. Robison, Frances attended Martinsburg BIC Church. She was a member of the American War Mothers, the Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, and the former Martinsburg Civic Club. Preceding Frances in death were her son, Donald E., and his wife Renate; three brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren. Surviving are two sons, Charles and Wayne; two daughters, Donna Rhodes and Erma Tears; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy Colbert. The funeral was held at the John C. Bolger Funeral Home, with Pastor Earl E. Herr officiating. Interment took place at Brumbaugh Cemetery (Martinsburg R.R., Pa.).

Roub, Allan G., 71, of Martinsburg, Pa., passed away on April 16. Son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Elizabeth (Glass) Roub, Allan attended the Martinsburg (Pa.) BIC Church. An Army veteran who had been stationed in Germany, Allan was the retired owner-operator of Roub’s Service Center. Preceding Allan in death were his brothers, Kenneth and Carl, and sister, Dorothy Kelly. Surviving are his wife, Margaret F. “Peg” (Dilling); son, Dennis; two daughters, Michelle Musselman and Annette Chadwick; and five grandchildren. The funeral was held at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, with pastors Earl E. Herr and David F. Banazak officiating. Interment took place at Brumbaugh Cemetery (Fredericksburg, Pa.).
Wideman, Grace Naomi, 82, of Gormley, ON, passed away on March 16. Daughter of the late Landon and Tena Steckley, Grace attended Heise Hill BIC Church (Gormley, ON). Preceding Grace in death were her husband, Earl, and her son, Ken. Surviving are her son, Ron; two daughters, Karen Dezwaan and Kathy Putnam; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Arnold Steckley; sister, Dorothy P. Wideman; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral was held at Heise Hill BIC with pastors Jim Baker and Harvey Sider officiating. Interment took place at Heise Hill Cemetery.

Smee, Rev. Ray L., 87, of Glendale, Ariz., passed away on August 21. Born August 23, 1920, in Carlisle, Pa., to the late Ira L. and Myrtle (Kingsborough) Smee, Ray became a Christian in 1930 and joined the BIC Church in 1931. He married Sylvia Sandoe Wenger on June 20, 1942. Ray joined the ministry in 1943 and was ordained in 1944. A tri-vocational pastor, he served at churches throughout the United States, including a 13-year stint at Grace Mennonite Church (Phoenix, Ariz.) In his lifetime, he spoke at many revival meetings and area-wide church assemblies. Ray is survived by four sisters, Ruth Stoner, Edna Sewell, Beulah Fanning, and Betty Wert, and a brother, Paul. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, and sister Martha. Services were held at the Glencroft Auditorium in Glendale, Ariz. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideon Memorial Fund.

Yoder, Abe S., 93, of Valley View Haven in Belleville, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, June 3. He was born April 9, 1915, to the late Abe S. Yoder, Sr. and Salome (Zook) Yoder. His first wife, Hannah (Byler) Yoder, preceded him in death on April 20, 1963; his second wife died on May 29, 1981; and he is survived by a third wife, Mildred E. Yoder, whom he married September 26, 1982. Abe and Mildred served as missionaries in Zimbabwe and also spent three years serving at the Navajo BIC Mission (New Bloomfield, N.M.). A member of the Big Valley BIC Church (Belleville, Pa.), Abe served as deacon and Sunday school teacher there. He was also a board member of the Mennonite Heritage Center and an originator and board member of the boys’ home in Belleville. He is survived by three sons, Allen, Titus, and Roy; four brothers, Steve, Kore, Noah, and Ben; two sisters, Veronica Yoder and Mary Peachey; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Locust Grove Mennonite Church (Belleville, Pa.) with pastors John Keefer and Roger Witter officiating. Interment took place at Locust Grove Cemetery.
