Cowboy church helps boost third quarter CM total
As we head into the final quarter in the 2007 fiscal year, the finance team is keeping a close on eye on contributions to Cooperative Ministries by congregations. So it was a source of celebration when a first check arrived from New Trail Fellowship in Abilene, Kans., one of our newest church plants. In a letter accompanying New Trail’s gift, Stan Norman, pastor of the denomination’s only cowboy church, wrote:
“Our people believe so much has been done for us in getting started that it is important that we begin giving back to the Lord. We recognize that there has been a large base support to help New Trail Fellowship get started and feel it is necessary to return back monies to help the work of the Lord across the denomination, particularly in the area of church planting. We trust this is the beginning of a great relationship [for New Trail Fellowship] within the body of Christ.”
We trust this good word from New Trail Fellowship will challenge longer established churches to be faithful in fulfilling their 2007 commitments to CM. And we hope it will be an encouragement as congregational leaders consider what their churches will commit to Cooperative Ministries for 2008. As Stan’s letter illustrates, CM dollars are making a difference all across North America, as together, we encourage leaders for ministry, start (12 so far in 2007) and support healthy churches, and carry the Good News of the Gospel worldwide.
