Leadership change ahead for Atlantic Conference

After much prayer and consideration, Craig Sider, bishop of the Atlantic Regional Conference of the Brethren in Christ Church, has announced that he will not be available for a third term of service. When he completes his second term as bishop in July 2008, he will have served the Atlantic Conference in this capacity for 12 years and the Southeast Conference for 10 years.

Craig has served with bold vision, skillful communication, catalytic leadership, and a deep passion for kingdom expansion, leading both conferences in significant growth. We celebrate all that God is doing in the Atlantic and Southeast Conferences and are grateful for Craig’s fruitful, sustained ministry during these years.

A bishop’s selection committee (BSC) has been formed to guide the search process for Craig’s successor. Atlantic Conference representatives on the BSC are lay leaders Nick Frey and Denys Pfeiffer and pastors John Reitz and Dale Shaw. The moderator and general secretary also serve on the committee which met for the first time on April 13.

The committee anticipates three more meetings as it reviews responses from a questionnaire about the bishop’s position, list and prioritize potential candidates, consider resumes and reference materials, interview candidates, and select a nominee.

Please join in praying for Craig and his family as they move into a time of transition, and for the selection committee in their work.
