Guidelines for choosing health insurance
For the 14 percent of BIC churches that currently participate in the denomination’s plan, the demise of the Brotherhood Health Plan is a source of anxiety. In an effort to assist congregational leaders in securing alternative coverage for their pastor(s), guidelines have been forwarded to churches through the bishops’ offices.
As the cover letter that accompanied the guidelines explained, providing adequate medical coverage for the pastor(s) is not an optional issue, but is, in fact, part of a congregation’s contractual agreement with its pastor(s). It is the hope of Leadership Council and the General Conference Board that all BIC churches will make it a high priority to provide an equivalent (or better) version of this plan for their pastor(s)/employee(s).
