Interim Executive Director named for BIC World Missions

The General Conference Board, acting on the recommendations of both the search committee and the Brethren in Christ Board for World Missions, has approved the appointment of Christine A. Sharp as Interim Executive Director of BIC World Missions. Currently serving as Director of Missional Development with BICWM, a position she has held since early 2007, Chris will step into her role on April 1, for a period of not less than one year.

Chris’s extensive experience in the area of leadership development, including staff positions at the Mechanicsburg and Pequea BIC Churches and wide-ranging volunteer roles within the Atlantic Conference, was an influencing factor in the search committee’s decision to forward Chris’s name to the GCB. But even more important to her selection as the new head of BICWM is Chris’s passion for reaching the lost with the salvation message.

In remarks to the General Conference Board, Chris described how sharing the good news of Jesus was “what I was doing in my local church. You probably are too. And that’s exactly what we’re doing around the world. So how can we partner in more strategic ways? That’s the passion of my heart.”

Referring to three priorities within BICWM—1) to create a network throughout North America in our regions that will help empower, resource, and connect with local churches all around the world; 2) to engage a church planting movement in Muslim majority cultures; and, 3) to strengthen the cross-cultural capacity among our sister BIC congregations for church planting—Chris challenged GCB members to “think about the capacity we can have together, all around the world. That is my passion, right back to the local church.”
