No more shouting
In today’s polarized context, civility is hard to come by when politics come into the conversation, and it doesn’t really seem to much matter on which side of the U.S. and Canada border we find ourselves. Add faith to the mix and the sparks really fly. So what can pastors and other congregational leaders do to encourage polite conversation and appropriate involvement by Brethren in Christ church goers in political life? The answer: enroll in Left, Right and Jesus, a new Impact Seminar from BIC Equipping for Ministry.
The objectives of the course, which will be taught by Perry Engle, bishop of the Midwest and Pacific Conferences, and Darrell Winger, community development pastor at the Meeting House, Oakville, Ontario, are:
- To help pastors and church leaders view current political engagement and issues through Biblical and theological lenses.
- To explore together the Biblical basis for the spectrum of potential engagement as Christ-followers.
- To connect the present with the past by providing a clear history of the Brethren in Christ understanding and practice on this issue.
- To work together at considering the current political realities and issues facing the church in the USA and Canada and what are appropriate ways for engaging.
- To be encouraged to be the reconciling community of believers in the midst of a polarized and divided culture.
