Thank you from Brethren in Christ churches in India

During an early January trip to the United States, Bijoy Roul, BICWM’s South Asia coordinator, presented a detailed report on how gifts from North American churches have been used on behalf of victims of flooding in the Orissa, Bihar, and West Bengal states of India. As of the year’s end:

  • 2,300 families had received a distribution of rice, lentils, puffed rice, sugar, and towels
  • 2,300 families were given seed, fertilizer, medicine, and clothes
  • 600 families were assisted with home repairs, including tin sheet supplies for new roofs

In his message to BIC churches in the U.S. and Canada, Bijoy Roul explained that Brethren in Christ and other Christians were denied access to government-funded aid programs, which made gifts received from North American churches all the more precious to our Indian brothers and sisters. He wrote: “When ten of our supervisors came to Cuttack in December, we had a very good discussion. Each of them gave their flood relief reports and shared how much the people had appreciated the assistance given to them. On behalf of all our believers, thank you for providing the necessary help.”
