General Conference Board highlights

As has become the pattern, the winter meeting of the General Conference Board was hosted by a BIC church away from Grantham, this year by Manor BIC Church in Lancaster, Pa. This provided board members from across North America with an in-person introduction to the mission and ministry of one of the denomination’s largest congregations. In return, the ministry team at Manor Church got an inside look at the work of the General Church as they listened in on the first evening’s discussion and the year-end reports from members of Leadership Council.

During the remainder of its February 7-9 meeting, the General Conference Board was brought up-to-date on the visioning process for 2020, progress being made toward re-introducing a brotherhood health plan, and challenges to the General Church’s ministry spending plan in the wake of two years of decreased support by U.S. congregations to Cooperative Ministries. Board members reviewed a number of recommendations that will be presented to General Conference for action and also approved returning General Conference to Messiah College in 2010. In its executive session, the board completed the evaluation of the Moderator and the General Secretary.
