Love at General Conference

As the hype builds for General Conference 2006, it’s only appropriate to draw attention to the social opportunities available at conference. Historically, General Conference has often been a time of celebration and renewal of the close ties that have kept the BIC unified for so many years. These traditions continue today. A fine example of this are the many stories of couples who met and later married because of General Conference.

Marilyn Byer, Grantham PA, was attending General Conference 2004 as a representative for BIC World Missions and as a delegate from her home congregation. Unexpectedly, she met Canadian Eldon Byer while there and the rest, as they say, is history. Marilyn never thought she would be dating electronically, but email was their main form of communication over the next almost six months.

They married in December 2004 and are now serving as the pastoral couple at West Shore BIC in Mechanicsburg, PA. Says Marilyn, “We have been awed and surprised at how God has led in this relationship – and it all started at General Conference.”

Or take Art and Donna Bert of Dillsburg (PA) BIC, who met at General Conference while in high school some years ago. As a result of their time together, they became friends and exchanged letters. Later in college they began to date and then were married. This year, they celebrate 38 years of marriage.

Remember to come to General Conference prepared to meet God and others in a special way!
