We Have This Ministry re-released

For 15 years, We Have This Ministry, edited by E. Morris Sider, has played a vital role in the development and encouragement of BIC leaders. The book, which approaches a variety of subjects from a pastoral perspective, is given to all individuals entering the credentialing process. Originally published in 1991 by Evangel Press, We Have This Ministry has now been updated and republished with more current information and bibliography entries.

A re-release celebration was held on Tuesday, June 27, honoring Sider for his diligent work on this book and many other projects related to BIC history and identity. Several of the book’s authors--Eber and Ruth Dourte, Jay McDermond, Warren Hoffman, Elbert Smith, and John Yeatts--were also in attendance (see above for photo).

During the ceremony, Dorothy Gish, dean of Equipping for Ministry; Warren Hoffman, moderator; and Emerson Lesher, president of the BIC Historical Society; spoke in appreciation for Sider and his work. "If we [the people of the BIC Church] are ever to be all that God designed us to be, we need to know who we are," Hoffman stated. "Morris has helped us stand in that firm place. He [has] helped us to articulate a clear identity."

In his preface to the second edition, Sider writes that he highly recommends We Have This Ministry not only to pastors, but also to “members of church boards, indeed to all laity, for the insights it gives into the life and work of pastors and their families. Readers will see their pastors in a new, more understanding, and perhaps a more sympathetic light."
