Other Duties as Assigned

One difficulty Pennsylvanians who are heading to Miami for General Conference face is how to get all of our stuff down there! This is especially hard for ministries that are planning to show off displays, give out information, or sell resources. In order to save some money and ensure that all displays and materials got to the same place safely and in a timely manner, the Communications office came up with a daring solution.

Fulfilling the clause in each General Church contract that states, “Must be willing to perform other duties as assigned,” Katie Geshay, Sarah Mackin, and Dulcimer Brubaker will be driving a truck loaded with all sorts of BIC items from Grantham, PA through to Miami, FL.

“At first I thought she was joking,” said Katie, when asked how they came up with the idea in the first place. “Sarah just said, ‘well, I’ll drive that stuff down, if that would help.’ Before we could say ‘General Conference Board’ we were signed up to go with her!”

Among the ministries that will have materials on the truck are World Missions Auxiliary, Brethren in Christ Historical Society, the Brethren in Christ Foundation, Quizzing, Evangel Press and Christian Light Bookstores, and of course, all the registration materials from the General Church.

Could this be the beginning of a new BIC outreach to truck drivers? You never know. “I always wanted to be part of a convoy,” Dulcimer says. “And now, thanks to the BIC Church, I’ll be riding with the best of them.”
