A peek at evening services for GC 2006
General Conference 2006 will include four evening worship services where participants will worship together and receive a message from a different pastor each night. Various aspects of the theme “Built to Last” will be unpacked by each preacher.
Originally from Uruguay, Pablo Lago began pastoring in 1987 as the founding pastor of La Roca Firme BIC Church in Hialeah, Fla. and was a bi-vocational pastor until 1996. He’ll be delivering Friday’s message on “Becoming an alive church.” Pablo’s passion is building up the family and home and also world missions.
On Saturday night, Rev. Humberto Cruz will preach on “Building a dynamic church.” Humberto was born in Cuba and began his ministry in 1960. His passion is revival and the empowering of the church by the Holy Spirit. Currently, he pastors Emmanuel BIC, a church of almost 2,000, which he founded 39 years ago.
Bishop John R. Zuck, Jr. will be speaking Sunday night on the theme of “Growing a healthy church.” After serving as a pastor at various churches for 16 years in the Canadian Conference, John returned to PA in 1993 to plant the New Joy Church in Ephrata, PA and helped launch a satellite congregation in Akron in 2001. He has served as Bishop of the Great Lakes Conference since 2004.
Rickey Bolden is passionate about evangelism, so he is an ideal choice for Monday’s message: “Unleashing a passionate church.” After playing seven seasons as a tackle with the Cleveland Browns, Rickey walked off the football field to answer God’s call into ministry, with a specific focus on reaching the city. Several years ago Rickey launched 859 Ministry in ‘the hood’ section of Washington D.C. This ministry reaches into, and lifts, the surrounding community through mentoring adults and children.
Worship will be led by Freddie Colloca, a local worship leader who was born in Argentina in 1975. He launched his music ministry in 1988 and currently also works as a youth pastor. Freddy often tours the USA and Latin America giving Christian concerts and has had six CDs of his work produced to date.
Each service will be a powerful time in itself and the combined force of all four should drive home the message that God is moving in the BIC and doing exciting things within our midst.
