Reorganization of the Council for Women in Ministry and Leadership Continues

A council dedicated to helping women discover and develop their spiritual gifts and call to ministry and leadership within the BIC was the brainchild of Rev. Janet Peifer. Since her untimely death in November of 2004, the council has been in a state of transition.

Recently, the council’s leadership team finalized a new vision statement and an organizational structure document that moves the women’s initiative toward more formal status with greater input from a variety of women. Functioning as a financially independent affinity group, the Council enjoys a supportive and accountable relationship with the denomination, reporting to the wider church through the General Secretary.

The Council will host an informational luncheon at General Conference 2006 and Chairperson Rev. Pat Oldham urges all interested persons – women and men – to attend. “A healthy church needs women in ministry, women interested in going into ministry, and men and women who are supportive of women in ministry,” she states.

The Council’s newsletter, Diakonos, is available online at www.equalworth.net.
