Cooperative Ministries at year end

coinsWith 2006 ending on a Sunday, it took a bit longer than usual to tally the CM totals. But the numbers are now in, and it looks like another solid showing by BIC churches, even if not all goals were met.

The year-end report is especially strong out of Canada, where BIC churches exceeded their commitments to Cooperative Ministries by $40,524. The $941,079.58 contributed by Canadian churches for all purposes represented an almost 10 percent increase over 2005.

On the U.S. side of the church, the Finance Office in Grantham held the books open until January 16, anticipating a last minute flurry of CM checks. But even with extension, contributions by U.S. churches came in $111,488 under their commitments for the year.

That said, there was a slight increase in giving ($20,603) by U. S. churches between 2005 and 2006, and at a time when most denominations are experiencing downturns in support of unified giving programs, this is reason to celebrate. Gifts from individuals, strong returns on investments, and access to reserve funds helped fill the gap in the General Church budget.

Now it’s on to 2007 and bold ministry plans in pursuit of our Impact 2010 goals. We are grateful for generous giving in years past, and we look forward to even more generous giving, as together, we build to last.
