After the blizzard, showers of blessings
A freakish fall blizzard blanketed the Buffalo-Niagara region with more than 30 cm of wet, heavy snow in early October, cancelling homecoming plans for alumni of the Niagara Christian Community of Schools and leaving the campus in disarray. However, in the weeks since, NCC has been showered with blessings as supporters of the schools have come together on behalf of the BIC-related institution in Fort Erie, Ontario. The acts of kindness to NCC include:
- A generous NCC father and community leader offered to house and feed residence students and staff in his Niagara Falls hotel/restaurant complex.
- An NCC alumnus delivered a refrigeration truck to campus to help store thousands of dollars of food in the school’s freezers.
- More than 40 volunteers assisted in clearing away branches and leaves, clearing the way for utility companies to restore the power and communication lines as quickly as possible.
Although the financial and human resource costs to NCC are still being tallied, CEO Kent Warkentin writes that “the awesome and overwhelming theme that ran through this experience is that God blessed us with the outpouring of His peace and wherewithal when we needed it most. He blessed us by seeing that no irreparable damage was done to our campus buildings and most importantly, nobody was hurt. He blessed us with the opportunity to unite and form a bond between our faculty, staff, and students that is stronger now than it was before the storm hit. Everyone at NCC is forever grateful for His blessings.”
