This Christmas, we invite you to use some of your Christmas gift money to buy needed supplies for the fight against the devastation in human lives caused by AIDS in Africa through BIC World Missions. Here is a list of specific ways for you to support the BIC African churches as they daily face this crisis of medical, educational, and home life needs.
Orphans and Vulnerable Children Vocational Training: US $530
For some, training in trades such as tailoring, carpentry, auto mechanics, plumbing, or electricity is their best option. $530 per student will provide tuition, room and board, and program administration costs for one year. Programs vary from one to two or more years.
Family caring for orphans: US $140
Zambia - BIC Churches are providing support to families that are having difficulty coping with the additional burden of orphaned children. $140 provides soap and blankets for a family for one year, costs of administration and supports initiatives that help families to find alternative or additional sources of income, making them more self-sufficient.
Person living with HIV/AIDS: US $160
Zambia - BIC Churches are providing basic health needs and supplementary food for people in their communities who are living with HIV/AIDS. $160 provides a home-based care kit, a brochure on basic care, costs of administration, supplementary food for one year, and also supports initiatives to find sustainable sources of nutritious food.
Palliative care worker: US $85
Zambie - Palliative care workers provide home-based care for those who are sick and counseling on how to live a healthier and fuller life through good nutrition, personal care, and other lifestyle changes. $85 provides training, costs of administration, and follow-up for one palliative care worker.
Anti-retroviral Therapy: US $150
Zambia - Anti-retroviral therapy uses drugs that slow the disease’s progress and even reverses some of the symptoms. The Zambian government has begun to subsidize the cost, but many can not even afford the remaining $10 per month. $150 pays for one year’s worth of anti-retroviral therapy and associated tests for one person.
Non-Certified Psycho/social Counsellor: US $80
All BIC pastors in Zambia encounter parishioners who are being impacted by HIV/AIDS. $80 will provide training costs for one pastor, 20 HIV/AIDS brochures, and costs of program administration.
Certified Psycho/social Counsellor: US $150
It is important to have at least two school teachers at each of the BIC Schools trained in psycho/social counselling. $150 per person will provide training, room and board, 20 brochures, one training kit per school and program administration costs.
Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Training: US $50
Training youth leaders about HIV/AIDS is essential for them to encourage their peers to make wise Christian choices about their sexual behaviour. $50 per person will provide training and program administration costs.
Christian Education Leader HIV/AIDS Awareness Training: US $50
This training helps Sunday School co-ordinators to enable teachers to integrate the truth about HIV/AIDS into their lessons. $50 will provide training and program administration costs for one participant.
Community HIV/AIDS Awareness Meetings: US $290
Rural community leaders are starting to understand the dire situation that one in five of their community members of child-bearing age have HIV. These day-long community meetings suggest actions that community leaders can take to curtail the infection rate and mitigate the impact of this dreaded disease. $290 will enable the BIC-Zambia Compassionate Ministry Team to facilitate one community meeting.
Program Coordinator: US $275 per month
Coordinating all of the BIC Church’s HIV/AIDS-related activities in Zambia is a full-time job. $275 will cover the coordinator’s salary for one month insuring continuing effective and efficient work .
Primary school student: US $25
Zambia – BIC churches are helping to ensure that all children in their communities are able to get a primary education. $25 will pay for one student’s school fees, school uniform, school supplies, soap, a blanket, and administration costs for one year.
High school student: US $265
Zambia - Education is the key to a better life for children living in poverty. $265 will pay for one student’s school fees, school uniform, school supplies, shoes, soap, blanket, and administrative costs one year.
Community School Student: US $85
Zambia - Kamunza is poverty stricken. $85 per student will provide food, teaching supplies, student learning supplies, food and transport for volunteer teachers, and program administration costs for one year.
