Meet the Whiz Kids!
When they’re off the clock, Dulci plays chef, Sarah plays in a band, and Katie plays flag football. While at work, however, these three form the communications team that publishes our denominational magazine , Momentum, and the BIC website.
A 2005 graduate of Messiah College, Katie Geshay is the media specialist for BIC Communications. Katie has a BFA in studio art and enjoys “being able to work in her field of study, to do projects she can be proud of.” Her most recent design work includes the promotional materials in the new What’s It All About? curriculum, the 2006 Cooperative Ministries brochure, and the advertisements for General Conference 2006. Katie explains that her job is “to elevate the visual appeal of the BIC message,” in print and on the web.
Sarah Mackin is the Program Coordinator for the Communications team. “What I enjoy about working at the General Church level,” she says, “is that I get to learn about what it means to be BIC from hundreds of perspectives.” Sarah is responsible for the day-to-day smooth operations of the Communications team, which means she does a little bit of everything, from writing news pieces to coordinating web server space for BIC congregations. An historian by training, she hopes to “encourage a common understanding of our identity and celebrate our united impact for the Kingdom” through the work of the Communications team.
As Editor of Seek magazine, Dulci Brubaker enjoys the creative task of planning, writing, and editing articles. “I love knowing that the magazine connects with people in a meaningful way. Nothing is more rewarding than hearing that an article was a profound encouragement to someone.” Dulci’s goal is to “continue to develop the interactive aspects of Seek magazine.” She would like to see BIC communication tools become important resources for BIC congregations.
Together, these women have created a working environment that is synergistic and characterized by lively good humor. Around the office, they’ve been nicknamed “the whiz kids” because whether they’re zapping e-mails to co-workers, developing web pages, or editing electronically, they exhibit an affinity for technology that their generation has demonstrated. “We don’t mean to overwhelm people –“ says Sarah. “ – we’re just trying to be efficient,” concludes Dulci. “And cool,” Katie adds, “don’t forget cool.”
