What is a blog?
A. The sound a camel makes when drinking water
B. A squashed bug on a log
C. An online journal or newsletter
D. A slang term for a log roller
If you selected “c” as your answer, you’re correct. Blogger.com defines a blog this way, "A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world."
In today’s world of instant communication, blogs have become a staple for many organizations, institutions, and individuals – including a good number of BIC – who want to get their thoughts out to a wide audience. And the interactive aspect of many blogs allows readers to respond to and help shape the blogger’s original piece.
The word “blog” is short for “weblog,” which, like many Internet words, has been combined and shortened. It’s also been made into a verb and a noun with multiple meanings: blog, blogger, and blogging.
Now, with many blogs vying with major news media for popularity, it may be time for consumers to understand the importance and purpose of blogs. After all, bloggers documented Katrina storm damage, recorded fallout from the recent Iranian elections, and reactions to the London terrorist attacks, to name a few current events.
The list of BIC bloggers includes:
The late pastor Mark Palmer, who chronicled his battle with cancer and the ups and downs of community life at his church, The Landing Place.
