M202r Pastoral Care and Counseling I
The focus of this required course is to learn and practice the fundamental counseling skills necessary for effectively listening, communicating, and being pastorally present with people. This course will emphasize the basic skills, principles, and processes of pastoral counseling, along with examining vital issues like helping someone who is in a crisis (such as suicidal) or depressed, integrating theology naturally in people-helping encounters, knowing when and how to refer, ethical and legal issues, and avoiding burnout. This course is a prerequisite for M203.
