Welcome!
Equipping for Ministry is the theological education arm of the Commission on Ministry and Doctrine of the Brethren in Christ Church.
Equipping for Ministry has three divisions each of which is intended for a distinct audience and designed to further the training of those involved in professional or lay ministry in the Brethren in Christ Church. The three categories are the Directed Study Program, Core Courses, and Impact Opportunities.
The Directed Study Program is an alternative to traditional on-campus training for those who are not in a position to participate in a more formal program of study. It is designed for post-secondary learners who are currently in ministry or who sense a call to Christian ministry and desire to prepare themselves to fulfill that call. Completion of the program serves in lieu of a formal degree and thus enables one to meet that educational requirement for BIC ordination. These courses are also a valuable resource for those in lay leadership. Hear what some DSP students have said:
The Core Courses are four intensive on-site courses designed to introduce the doctrinal convictions and applied values of the Brethren in Christ. Given the need for a common understanding of doctrine, leadership and structure, completion of these courses is required as part of the credentialing process. Darren Potter, Steve Airth, and Kris testify to their value.
The Impact Opportunities are essentially BIC conversations related to our mission, vision and values as a living, growing, and changing community of faith. Addressing current issues from a BIC theological perspective, these courses, seminars and e-seminars are developed primarily for persons in active ministry like Jeff Miller and Mark Thornton , as well as lay leaders like Elizabeth Brown.
All Equipping for Ministry programs are overseen by the Equipping for Ministry Team which is accountable to the Commission on Ministry and Doctrine.
