Although the World Hunger Fund (WHF) has been in place for close to thirty years, it is one of the best kept giving secrets within the Brethren in Christ Church. The WHF was established as a way for members of BIC churches to respond to significant physical needs, especially hunger-relief, that exist in so many regions of the world. Today, the fund stands as a reminder to North American Christians of our wealth, comfort and ready supply of life’s necessities.
At the last Canadian Conference Annual Meeting The Compassionate Ministries Team (CMT) handed out a new Logo magnet. The colours, sprout green and sky blue, were chosen to convey a message of partnership, growth, hope and forward thinking. In 2009 the CMT distributed over $81,000 to Brethren in Christ and Mennonite Central Committee projects. We were able to help in the following ways: Ethiopia “Food for All” campaign, food aid for Sudan, in Asia, the earthquake/typhoon disaster, HIV/AID’s and orphan assistance in Mozambique and Malawi, provide food and medical needs to Zimbabwe and support for families affected by persecution in India.
The Family to Family programme has been very well received and to date $19,735 has been sent to the US for processing amongst the families in Zimbabwe.
