As the focus in Haiti shifts from first-response relief efforts in the days immediately following the mid-January earthquake to the longer term work of rebuilding lives, homes, and the nation’s infrastructure, the Brethren in Christ Church in North America continues to accept gifts designated for Haiti through the World Hunger Fund (WHF). We will also follow the stories of BIC volunteers and mission workers who are involved in bringing help, hope, and a brighter future to the Haitian people.

Because the BIC Church does not have a presence of its own in Haiti, we are working in partnership with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and several other organizations within which there is a significant BIC contingent, as we seek to represent the love of Jesus to people whose lives have been devastated by last week’s earthquake and the continuing after-shocks. Gifts through the WHF communicate to MCC and our other ministry partners in Haiti that we Brethren in Christ are united in our commitment to serving compassionately, and allows the denomination as a whole to celebrate the generosity of our people.

About the World Hunger Fund

For more than 30 years, the World Hunger Fund (WHF) has provided a way for BIC churches and individuals in Canada and the U.S. to extend a “cup of cold water” to their global neighbors. Over the years, the purpose of the WHF has expanded to include a wider range of relief assistance, including flood recovery, school supplies, and housing.
