In embarking on the Transformation 2020 ministry plan, we declare our desire as Brethren in Christ to become a “resurrection mosaic”—a community of believers in which God fits all the pieces together to create one beautiful whole. As we dedicate ourselves to these commitments, we do so with the confidence that the God who raised Jesus from the grave nearly 2,000 years ago is still in the business of changing lives today.

Vision

The Brethren in Christ in North America aspire to be an expanding mosaic of churches, all seeing lives transformed by Jesus Christ.

Call

God is calling the Brethren in Christ to reassert the primary purpose of the Church as developing earnest, lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. This means that we, in turn, must actively call one another—seekers and believers alike—to move forward, to take these next steps in the spiritual life:

• To see lives changed, we must readily and unapologetically give invitations to follow Jesus.
• We must tirelessly call believers to grow in christ-likeness.
• We must challenge, equip, and commission believers to serve others within and beyond the community of believers.
• God commands us to go to all people. Every believer is called to extend Christ’s influence outward.

Priorities

We Brethren in Christ aspire to be a community of believers that sees lives changed wherever we live, work, or worship. At every level of church life, we envision sustained concentration on three strategic priorities:

• We will vigorously apply strategies to multiply sites for life change within existing churches by starting small groups, adding worship services, and launching new outreach ministries.
• We will purposefully equip leaders for transformation in the Church. We will train leaders to be catalysts of Spirit-led transformation, within both individuals and faith communities.
• Through every church, we will strive to extend Christ’s influence outward as we send workers for witness and service to broken and fragmented humanity near and far. We will seek out the broken and neglected in our own communities. We will share God’s love with all people.

Commitment

We have prayed. We have listened. We have imagined. And God has honored our planning endeavors with an exciting vision of what the Brethren in Christ Church in North America can be by 2020.

Now, it is time to take action. The task before all of us together, with God, is to create an expanding mosaic of churches, all seeing lives transformed by Jesus Christ.

The work will not be easy. The costs of our commitments will certainly be high. But as we pursue the Transformation 2020 ministry plan, God will make of us a Church that can proclaim with confidence,
